Iran Election Anniversary: Neda Remembered
Moments after she was shot to death on June 20th, 2009 during the Iran election protests, images and video of her unjustified departure flooded the internet–and overnight, Neda’s neda (Persian: voice, call) was heard.
And now as the anniversary of her death approaches, Neda Agha Soltan is remembered;
NedaSpeaks.org is an organization that was launched as a “global online march in support of human rights in Iran, in honor of the upcoming one-year anniversary of Neda Agha-Soltan’s death on the streets of Tehran.”
By merely taking a few seconds to take a photo of yourself gripping a sign that reads: “I am Neda,” you can join this group of people who value life above politics, and remember Neda.
NedaSpeaks.org wants your support for this “fundamental stand for human rights” and encourages you to be “as creative as you want” in writing the words, “I am Neda.” In fact, you can proclaim your solidarity in “any language.”
It’s easy.
Here are the directions :
STEP 1:
Sign up and upload a photo of yourself holding a sign (or wearing a shirt, or showing off a new tattoo, etc.) that says “I am Neda.” Feel free to be as creative as you want, and to make the statement in any language.
If you don’t feel like making a sign, you can download a printable PDF that reads “I am Neda”.
STEP 2:
Spread the word.
Change your Facebook status to read “I am Neda” and/or post your “I am Neda” photo to your Wall.
Send out a tweet: I just uploaded an “I am #Neda” photo in support of human rights in Iran at www.nedaspeaks.org.
