Art Exhibit at Saatchi Gallery: “This is Tomorrow” Featuring Farhad Gavzan
START, presented by Prudential, introduces START Projects, a series of curator-led initiatives that will occupy the entire second floor of the Saatchi Gallery in London.
Running from Wednesday, September 9th (Preview Day) to Sunday, September 13th, START is a five-day event that shines a spotlight on emerging artists. Nearly half of the second edition of the fair will be dedicated to focused exhibitions and solo artist presentations, showcasing the most dynamic art being made in Asia and beyond.
The 2015 edition of Start Projects features ‘This is Tomorrow’, a series of solo artist presentations selected by START’s Fair Director, Niru Ratnam. The section focuses on artists whose work is rooted in the contemporary either through the way they work, their subject matter, or the context in which they work.
Amongst the fifteen participants, Iranian artist Farhad Gavzan (Dastan’s Basement, Tehran) will be exhibiting his work alongside his peers.
“Human is the main subject matter, and drawing is the only concern of my mind,” Gavzan notes in a minimal yet compelling artist statement.
Born in 1974, in Babol, Iran, Gavzan has a M.A. in painting and has held 17 solo art exhibitions in different cities. He has published three books featuring a collection of his drawings, and continues to hold various specialized talks and seminars regarding drawing.
The Saatchi Gallery was founded in 1985 with the aim of making contemporary art accessible to the widest possible audience by providing an innovative platform for emerging artists to show their work. Over the last six years the Saatchi Gallery has hosted seventeen out of the top twenty most visited exhibitions in London.
